Access restrictions

Access restrictions serve to prevent unauthorised persons from accessing various areas, such as locations or installations where classified information is kept or where activities of importance to national security are carried out. They may also serve to prevent terrorist attacks and to protect persons or property against attacks and crimes of violence.
When used by authorities, access restrictions must be designed so as not to unnecessarily restrict the public´s right to free movement. The need for protection must determine the design of the protection measures. The restrictions may apply to outsiders, or to the authority´s own staff, in which case access to a particular room or area will be given only to employees who need it to carry out their work.
