Investigation into suspected terrorist attack plotting in Gothenburg
The investigation process has begun, which means that interrogations and other investigative measures are underway. The four individuals arrested on Saturday, 10 September in Gothenburg are now in custody, suspected on probable grounds of preparation to commit a terrorist offence. The National Counter Terrorism Unit and the Västra Götaland County Police assisted in these arrests, which occurred without incident.

Four arrested in Gothenburg
Four people were arrested on Saturday, 10 September in Gothenburg on suspicion of the preparation to commit a terrorist offence. The arrest were made with assistance from the Swedish police's National Counter Terrorism Unit and the Västra Götaland County Police.

The Strathclyde Police, Scotland, has today arrested a person suspected of offences under the Terrorism Act 2000.

A verdict of acquittal for conspiracy to commit a terrorist offence in the Court of Appeal for Western Sweden
The Court of Appeal for Western Sweden acquitted the two Swedish citizens who were charged with conspiracy to commit a terrorist offence. The Office of the Prosecutor-General will determine if the case will be tried in the Supreme Court.

Intensive investigation into the terrorist attack
The Swedish Security Service has now been investigating the 11 December 2010 terrorist attack for 60 days. In this comprehensive investigation, nearly 1000 tips have been received from the public, approximately 700 interrogations have been held and several hundred objects have been examined.

The Swedish Security Service investigation into the suspected terrorist offence committed in central Stockholm on 11 December 2010 continues with the assistance of other police authorities and international partners. Because of the high-profile nature of this case we want to keep the general public as up to date as possible without violating the secrecy applying to the ongoing investigation.

Five people arrested on suspicion of preparation to commit a terrorist offence in Denmark
Today five people were arrested on suspicion of preparation to commit a terrorist offence in Denmark. Four were arrested in Denmark and one was arrested in Sweden. Four of those arrested reside in Sweden, three of whom are Swedish citizens.

The Swedish Security Service press conference on Thursday revealed that the investigation of the act of terror performed in Stockholm continues. Many hundreds of tips have been submitted by the public and many witnesses have been interviewed. Forensics are currently processing the collected material to secure any traces and the post-mortem has been completed.

Report on violence-promoting Islamist extremism presented to Government
Violence-promoting Islamist extremism and radicalisation do exist in Sweden and should not be underestimated as potential threats. However, the currently limited occurrences of these phenomena should be countered mainly by an increased focus on preventive measures. These are the main conclusions of the report on violence-promoting Islamist extremism in Sweden presented to Government today.

Summary of press conference, 13 December 2010
The car that exploded in central Stockholm on Saturday 11 December has now been linked to the suicide bomber who blew himself up a few blocks away from the vehicle. The police however believe that the man probably did not act alone.

The group is made up of specialists in tracing explosives, with extensive knowledge about the methods used by terrorists in bomb attacks in other parts of the world.The Swedish Security Service cooperates regularly with our Nordic and European partners as well as with the USA to counter international terrorism.

Swedish public agencies and companies were hit by electronic espionage in January and February 2009, when unknown attackers sent fake emails with attachments containing malware to selected persons at management level. Changed threat level
The threat to Sweden of a terrorist attack has recently changed. Responding to this situation, Anders Danielsson, Director General of the Swedish Security Service, has decided to raise the threat level by one step as regards terrorism targeting Sweden. The terrorist threat level has been raised from low to elevated. It should be emphasised that the threat to Sweden is not currently assessed to be imminent.

According to Ireland's National Police Service seven individuals were arrested on 9 March 2010 in connection with an investigation into a conspiracy to murder an individual in another jurisdiction.

Yesterday, the Swedish Security Service arrested a Swedish citizen on suspicion of illegal intelligence activities, which is considered a serious crime. The arrest was made in the Stockholm area.

Swedish man killed in firefight in Iraq
A 43-year-old Swedish national of Moroccan origin was killed in a firefight with US forces in northern Iraq in early October, according to information from US authorities. It had been suspected for some time that the man was part of the leadership of al-Qaida in Iraq. He was known to the Swedish Security Service for his activities in Islamist circles in Sweden prone to violence.

Anders Danielsson new Director General of the Security Service
On Monday 4 June, the Government appointed Anders Danielsson new Director General of the Security Service. He will take up his post on Monday 11 June. Anders Danielsson most recently comes from the Skåne Police Authority, where he has been County Police Commissioner since 2002.
